INTRODUCTION. HUNGARIAN TERMINOLOGY STRATEGY: PLANS AND FEASIBILITY
strategy, although the Academy plans to create a Hungarian language strategy
in the near future. She suggests that universities themselves should create their
own terminology strategy document, in such a way that the institutional strategy
is linked to the Hungarian national terminology strategy and is created in the
spirit of additive bilingualism. Ihe study also highlights that the development
and publication of domain-specific terminology would be the foundation for the
promotion of the Hungarian academic language.
The paper by Ágota Fóris and Eszter B. Papp, titled A felsőoktatás termino¬
lögidja - referenciamüvek es adatbazisok [The terminology of higher education
— reference works and databases], examines the reference works in the field of
educational terminology. The authors have examined the organizational and
educational context of educational terminology in Hungary and the European
Union, and the glossaries, dictionaries and databases available on the subject,
and the languages they contain educational terminology in. They found that the
Hungarian terminology of education is only available in Hungarian-related
glossaries and dictionaries, and they suggested that it would be worthwhile to
collect the educational terminology of higher education in a multilingual database.
Planning of the Hungarian National Terminology Database
The second chapter begins with Ägota Föris’ paper, A magyar terminolögiastra¬
tégia megvalósításának perspektívái [1he implementation perspectives of the
Hungarian terminology strategy], which gives an overview of the background,
creation, schedule and implementation plan of the Hungarian national terminology
strategy, followed by a discussion of the plans for the “Hungarian National
Terminology Database” [Magyar Nemzeti Terminoldégiai Adatbazis, MaNTA]
sub-project. The study outlines the tasks and conditions to be met in the initial
phase of MaNTA, the advantages and disadvantages of a terminology portal and
the possible creation of a metasearch engine. The author points out that the
planning phase is a very important stage, and that during the design and
implementation of MaNTA it is crucial to set up an expert team, to exchange
views and ensure regular consultation; and that regular consultation among the
different stakeholders is essential to discuss terminology strategy issues, tasks
and problems. Throughout the planning process, it is essential to keep in mind
that the MaNTA should be available and be developed long term.
In their paper, Magyar Nemzeti Terminológiai Adatbázis tervezése. Általános
kérdések [Planning the Hungarian National Terminology Database. General
questions], Ägota Föris, Zoltän Somogyi and Eszter B. Papp review the general
