- Annak ellenére, hogy a padovai születésű humanista orvos, Antonio Gazio (1461–1528) fő műve, a Corona florida a 15–16. század egyik orvosi sikerkönyve volt, az utókor szinte teljesen elfelejtette. Személye azért lehet különösen érdekes számunkra, mert több évet töltött Magyarországon, és életéből nem ismerünk más patrónusi kapcsolatot, mint a korabeli magyar mecénásokkal fennálló viszonyt. A jelen kiadás legfőbb célja, hogy egyrészt ráirányítsa a szakmai közönség figyelmét e méltatlanul elfeledett humanista tudósra, másrészt pedig egy olvasmányosabb művének a közreadásával közelebb is hozza őt az olvasókhoz. A könyv két fő egységre tagolódik: az első rész a szerző életének és munkásságának teljes, monográfiai igényű összefoglalását tartalmazza, míg a második rész egy rövid orvosi értekezését közli a bor és a sör egészségügyi hatásairól eredeti latin nyelven és magyar fordításban. Gazio orvosi értekezésének a tanulsága: Ne azért éljünk, hogy igyunk, hanem azért igyunk, hogy éljünk!

- Despite the fact that the main work of the Paduan physician Antonio Gazio (1461–1528), Corona florida, was one of the medical bestsellers of the 15th–16th centuries, he has been almost completely forgotten by posterity. The principal aim of this edition is, on the one hand, to draw the attention of the scholarly community to this forgotten humanist scholar, and on the other, through the publication of one of his more readable works, to bring him closer to modern readers. The book is divided into two main parts: the first offers a comprehensive, monograph-style overview of the author’s life and oeuvre, while the second presents one of his short medical treatises—on the health effects of wine and beer—in the original Latin with a Hungarian translation. The lesson of Gazio’s medical treatise may be summed up as follows: Let us not live to drink, but drink to live!
