- Nem kisebb céllal készült ez a tanulmánykötet, mint hogy megpróbáljon érvényes választ adni olyan kérdésre fiatalabb szociológusok számára, hogy „hogyan dolgozzam fel az interjúimat, mit kezdjek az élettörténetekkel az interjúk felvétele után?” Szándékom volt bemutatni, hogy meddig jutottam el az élettörténeti kutatások feldolgozásával az elmúlt 20 év során, hogyan váltak számomra megfoghatóvá az egyéni és kollektív identitások, amelyek vélhetően társadalmilag fontosak, amelyek megismerésével mélyebb önismeretre s nagyobb önelfogadásra tehet szert a magyar társadalom. A fejezetekben közölt tanulmányok társadalomtörténeti szempontból kronologikus és tematikus elrendezésben követik egymást, egy-egy rövid bevezető szöveg kíséretében. A bevezető szövegekben az élettörténeti interjúk feldolgozási módjára is rámutatok, felhívva az olvasó figyelmét az eredmények mögött húzódó elemzésekre.

- This collection of studies was created with the ambitious goal of providing a valid answer to a question posed by younger sociologists: 'How should I process my interviews? What should I do with the life stories after recording them?' I intended to demonstrate my progress in processing life history research over the past 20 years, and to show how individual and collective identities, which are socially significant, have become tangible to me. I also aimed to illustrate how Hungarian society can achieve a deeper understanding of itself and greater self-acceptance by learning about these identities. The studies presented in the chapters follow each other in chronological and thematic order from a social history perspective and are accompanied by short introductory texts. In these texts, I also explain the method used to process the life history interviews and draw the reader's attention to the analyses behind the results.
