- „Brazília és Portugália testvérországok – nyilatkozta a portugál államelnök 1922-es brazíliai látogatása alkalmával, majd így folytatta –, bár már külön élnek, történetük száz év előtt még közös volt, jövőjük sok ponton különbözik, de éppen olyan sokban azonos is. A brazilok saját hazájuknak érzik Portugáliát. A portugálok széles munkástömegei pedig Brazíliát olyannak tartják, mint a hazai földet.” Ez az Atlantisz-álom lényege. A két ország ideálisan harmonikus, testvéri viszonya, a luzo-brazil kötődésű elit vágya. Ennek tükrében mutatkozik meg a kötetben a modernizáció és a nacionalizmus történelmi időszaka a boldog békeidőktől az 1930-as évtized kezdetéig.

- "Brazil and Portugal are sister countries," the Portuguese president said during his visit to Brazil in 1922, "although they are now separated, their history was common a hundred years ago, their future is different in many respects, but equally similar. Brazilians feel Portugal is their own homeland. And the broad working masses of the Portuguese regard Brazil as their home land." This is the essence of the Atlantis dream. The ideally harmonious, fraternal relationship between the two countries, the desire of the Luzo-Brazilian elite. This is reflected in this volume in the historical period of modernization and nationalism, from the happy times of peace at the turn of the century to the beginning of the decade of the 1930s.
