- Valerian Mader (1558–1605?) könyvének nemcsak az adja a különlegességét, hogy egyetlen fennmaradt példányt ismerünk belőle, hanem az a személyes és lírai hangvétel is, amely a korszak neolatin költeményeiből általában hiányzik. Olvashatunk szerelmi jó tanácsokról és szerelmi kínokról, barátja betegségére ajánlott szilvaleves receptről, gyerekkorának félelmetes farsangi élményéről, kilencévesen egy eltévedt muskétagolyótól szerzett traumatikus sebesüléséről, a sárospataki hidegben egy ajándékba kapott köpenyről, elfogyott írópapírokról, egy tankönyveit házába befogadó lelkészről, egy tavaszi kora reggelről a Vág partján, egy kisgyermeknek ajándékba küldött körtékről, a Tycho Brahe-féle 1577- es üstökösről, pestisről és unitárius lelki pestisről, a zsolnai iskola felgyújtásáról, a török kegyetlenségeiről, gyermekei haláláról, a mezőn egy fiókáit védeni próbáló lekaszált madárról, sőt erdélyi rablókról, akiktől zenei tudásának hála megmenekült. Jelen kiadásunk és összefoglaló tanulmányunk tisztelgés a magyar irodalomtörténet ezen méltatlanul elfeledett költője előtt.

- The special value of Valerian Mader's (1558–1605?) book is not only due to the fact that only a single surviving copy is known, but also because of the personal and lyrical tone that is generally absent from the Neo-Latin poetry of the period. We can read about love advice and the pains of love, a plum soup recipe recommended for a friend's illness, a terrifying childhood carnival experience, the traumatic injury from a stray musket ball at the age of nine, a gifted cloak in the cold of Sárospatak, the lack of writing paper, a pastor who sheltered his textbooks, an early spring morning on the banks of the Váh River, pears sent as a gift to a small child, Tycho Brahe’s 1577 comet, the plague and the "spiritual plague" of Unitarianism, the burning of the school in Žilina, Turkish cruelties, the death of his children, a bird cut down in the field trying to protect its nestlings, and even Transylvanian robbers, from whom he escaped thanks to his musical knowledge. This edition and the accompanying study pay tribute to this unjustly forgotten poet of Hungarian literary history.
