Példaként az almahiányt
említette. Magyarországon
átlagosan 600 ezer tonna
alma terem, ezzel szemben
idén mindent összevetve is
csupán 350 ezer tonna ter¬
mett. Csak az iparnak 500
ezer tonnára lenne szüksége,
így könnyen belátható, hogy
súlyos hiány van a gyümölcs¬
ből, ezért emelkedett ilyen
látványosan az alma ára.

Még a jégháló sem védte
volna meg a termést.

A szakember megjegyezte,
hogy a korszerű ültetvénye¬
ken jéghálóval mínusz 1-2
fokot ki lehetne védeni,
azonban egy több hónapig
tartó, folyamatos, minden
fajt érintő fagyhullámot az
sem állított volna meg.
Mártonffy Béla reméli, hogy
az idei tavaszihoz hasonló
időjárási viszontagságok a
következő években nem fog
megismétlődni.

A zöldségeknél már jobb a
helyzet.

A zöldségekre kitérve a
szakember elmondta, itt is
megfigyelhető százalékos
drágulás. Ez főleg az április
és június közötti időszakban
bekövetkező nagy hőingá¬
soknak tudható be. A hőér¬
zékeny növények — a paradi¬
csom, a paprika, vagy a borsó
és csemegekukorica — emiatt
vontatottan keltek, és min¬
den csúszott egy-két hetet.

He cited the apple shortage
as an example. In Hungary,
an average of 600,000 tonnes
of apples are produced,
whereas this year, on aver¬
age, only 350,000 tonnes
were produced. The industry
alone would need 500,000
tonnes, so it is easy to see
that there is a serious short¬
age of the fruit, which is why
the price of apples has risen
so spectacularly.

Even ice nets would not
have protected the crop.

The expert noted that mod¬
ern plantations could have
been protected from minus
1-2 degrees by ice nets, but
that they would not have
stopped a continuous frost
wave affecting all varie¬
ties for several months. Bé¬
la Martonffy hopes that
weather conditions similar
to this spring will not be
repeated in the coming
years.

The situation is better for
vegetables.

Turning to vegetables, the
expert said that a percentage
rise in prices was also notice¬
able here. This was mainly
due to the high temperatures
between April and June,
which meant that heat-sensi¬
tive crops such as tomatoes,
peppers, peas and sweetcorn
were slow to emerge and all
delayed for a week or two.

He cited apple shortages as
an example. In Hungary, on
average 600,000 tons of
apples are grown annualy,
but this year, all in all, only
350,000 tons were grown.
Processors/The food industy
alone (would) need 500
thousand tons, so it is easy to
see that there is a severe
shortage of apples, and this
explains the spectacular rise
in prices.

Even hail nets would not
have protected the crop.

The president added that in
modern plantations hail nets
can provide protection up to
minus 1-2 degrees. However,
even nets could not have
protected the crop against a
continuous wave of frost
lasting several months and
affecting all fruit crops. He
expressed his hope that
weather conditions similar
to those experienced this
spring will not recur/return
in coming years.

The vegetable(s) situation
is better.

Turning to vegetables, Mr.
Mártonffy said that in this
sector too there has been a
marked increase in prices.
This is mainly due to large
temperature fluctuations
between April and June.
Heat-sensitive crops, such as
tomatoes, peppers, peas and
sweet corn emerged late, and
all crops were delayed by a
week or two.
