Abingdon, Oxon, Routledge It is admittedly a great source of inspiration for the current Reader. In its 14 chapters, it reveals how EH generates discourse involving the liberal, social and natural sciences, and the arts. It familiarizes the student with EH goal, basic tenets and terminology, its historical and scientific roots, and reviews its possible contribution to practices and theories of sustainability in the age of environmental crisis. Written in the style of textbooks, it is easy to follow. The authors have enhanced the book’s appeal with several case studies, and also inspire the students to initiate their own projects, investigations, and argumentation about the problems it raises. Emmett, Robert — Nye, David E. (ed.) 2017. The Environmental Humanities: A Critical Introduction. Cambridge, Massachusetts, The MIT Press. The book is one of the first great introductions to the EH and a summary of achievements so far. Through the complex interpretation of a few examples, it demonstrates the basic principles, methods and goals of the field of scholarship (ecotourism, energy, cities, science, Anthropocene, alternative practices).
