deconstruction of the authority of the sermon, the preacher, and the Scriptures
as a response to the crisis of authority in postmodernity. The “other-wised” (John
McClure) homiletics uses the ethics of Emmanuel Levinas and rejects tradition¬
al ontology. The marginalized homiletic (Kathy Black, Anna Carter Florence)
focus is on the disabled, the homeless and women, responding to the local ten¬
dencies of postmodernity with the understanding of Paul Ricoeur’s testimony.

A PHONETIC ANALYSIS OF THE NOTATION OF THE AINU WORDS
IN THE AINU DICTIONARY MANUSCRIPT OF BENEDEK BARATHOSI BALOGH

Dora Anna Varga

This paper presents an analysis the phonetic notation of the Ainu Dictionary
manuscript of Benedek Barathosi Balogh. Regarding the vowels, it concludes
that Barathosi’s short vowels denote phonemes known in the Ainu language. The
accented vowels presumably refer to stress and sound length, as in the work of
Bronistaw Pitsudski. With regards to the consonants, Baräthosi often uses a
separate grapheme to indicate the different allophones. However, in many in¬
stances, Barathosi follows the notation of other dictionaries, so in those partic¬
ular cases, it is useful to take into account the notation of the work in question
and the variant of the language it describes. At the end of the paper, Baräthosi’s
notations are presented in tabular form according to the IPA notation system.
