FROM HARM TO OFFENSE: REFLECTIONS ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF SPEECH NORMS... public sentiment towards censorship, a position that is welcomed by democratic and non-democratic governments alike, eager to produce censorship upon popular demand. Of course, the less democratic a government the more enthusiastic it will be to protect its population from offensive speech. The reasons for speech overprotection are easily forgotten in a Kardashian republic.
