- Alexandre Pierre Odart de Rilly (1778–1866) gróf a XIX. század első felének meghatározó alakja volt az európai szőlészeti és borászati munkák szervezésének. Érdeklődése túlmutatott a franciaországi szúlőgazdálkodás gondjain, követte a spanyol és az olasz szakirodalmat, személyesen látogatott el több németországi, ausztriai és Magyar Királyságbeli birtokra, szőlőiskolába. Az Esvres melletti La Dorée elnevezésű birtokán maga is kísérletezett szőlőfajtákkal. Legtöbbet a Tokaj-Hegyalja szőlőiről és borairól ír, de látókörébe vonta a Ménestől Sopronig húzódó borvidékek kiemelkedő helyeit, fajtáit és borait. A Hegyalján kívül járt Arad, Heves, Pest, Komárom és Sopron megyékben. Aktív közéleti szereplőként és szakíróként sokat tett a magyar szőlők és magyar borok nemzetközi megismertetéséért. A magyar borokat nagy szimpátiával elismerően írja le, ugyanakkor kritikus is az egyes fajtákkal, művelési, vagy éppen borkészítési módokkal kapcsolatban.

- Count Alexandre Pierre Odart de Rilly (1778–1866) was a key figure in the organization of European viticulture and winemaking in the first half of the 19th century. His interests extended beyond the problems of viticulture in France; he followed Spanish and Italian literature on the subject and personally visited several estates and vine nurseries in Germany, Austria, and the Kingdom of Hungary. He also experimented with grape varieties on his own estate, La Dorée, near Esvres. He wrote mostly about the grapes and wines of Tokaj-Hegyalja, but he also covered the outstanding locations, varieties, and wines of the wine regions stretching from Ménes to Sopron. Outside the Hegyalja region, he visited the counties of Arad, Heves, Pest, Komárom, and Sopron. As an active public figure and specialist writer, he did a great deal to promote Hungarian grapes and wines internationally. He writes about Hungarian wines with great sympathy and appreciation, but is also critical of certain varieties, cultivation methods, and winemaking techniques
