A kötet a szerzőnek az utóbbi jó tíz évben megjelent, válogatott historiográfiai tanulmányait és forrásközleményeit tartalmazza. Ezek az írások az Aetas, a Századok, a Történelmi Szemle, a Múltunk, a Valóság, az Egyháztörténeti Szemle című folyóiratokban, illetve a Századvég, a Hajnal István Kör, a Debreceni Egyetemi Kiadó által publikált kötetekben jelentek meg. A tanulmányok a 20. századi magyar történetírás kiemelkedő képviselői, Szekfű Gyula, Domanovszky Sándor, Szabó István, Ifjabb Révész Imre, Mályusz Elemér, Ifjabb Iványi Grünwald Béla életművének fontos aspektusairól, illetve a 20. századi magyar történetírás né hány jelentős problémájáról, így a hanyatlás gondolatának a két világháború közötti magyar történeti gondolkodásban való megjelenéséről, az ún. Mohács-vitáról, az 1945 utáni agrártörténet-írásról vagy például a populizmus gondolatának emlékezetpolitikai szerepéről szólnak. A kötet második részében különböző magyar és külföldi szerzők, így Romsics Ignác, Dénes Iván Zoltán, Stefan Berger historiográfiai munkáiról készült kritikai esszék találhatók, amelyek több vonatkozásban érintik a historiográfia általános, európai problémáit is. A kötet záró írása egy, a szerzővel készített interjú, amely egyfajta ars poetica is, azaz a szerző vallomása a historiográfia kutatásának speciális aspektusairól és nehézségeiről.
Summary (EN)
The present book compiles selected studies and source-publications, published by the author over the course of the last decade. These studies explore key aspects of the work of notable representatives of 20th century Hungarian historical writing, such as Gyula Szekfű, Sándor Domanovszky, István Szabó, Imre Révész Junior, Elemér Mályusz, Béla Iványi-Grünwald Junior, and discuss some significant questions addressed this historical writing, including the concept of decline as it manifests in the historiography and historical thought between the two World Wars, the so-called „Mohács-debate” of the 1970s and 1980s, the concept of the „third way” in post-1945 Hungarian rural history, and tenets of populist theory emerging around 1948. The second part of the volume features critical essays on the historiographical contributions of various Hungarian and European authors, namely Ignác Romsics, Zoltán Dénes Iván, and Stefan Berger. These essays touch upon broader aspects of historiography as well as historical theory. The concluding piece is an interview with the author, offering an ars poetica of sorts, including a confession about the unique aspects and challenges of conducting historiographical research.
