- Az oszmán-török hódoltság végétől a magyar országgyűlésnek Pestre költözéséig eltelt időben a Magyar Királyságot és Erdélyt próbálták a Habsburg Birodalomba tagolni. Jelen kötet esettanulmányok segítségével e folyamatnak csupán két elemét vizsgálja. Részben azt, hogy a két államigazgatási egység könyvtárainak rendszere miként alakult át, milyen jellemzői voltak az akkori magán-, és milyenek az intézményi könyvtáraknak. A másik vizsgálati szempont az egyes társadalmi rétegek, vallási közösségek, szakmai csoportok tagjai olvasmányanyagának változásait helyezi a középpontba. A szerző meggyőződése, hogy bármilyen történelmi korszak bármely részletének teljes megismerése egyben eszközt ad a kezünkbe ahhoz, hogy napjaink kérdéseire is választ találjunk. A történelem tanít, a mese, ha más néven is, de rólunk szól.

- Between the end of the Ottoman-Turkish occupation and the move of the Hungarian Diet to Pest, attempts were made to incorporate the Kingdom of Hungary and Transylvania into the Habsburg Empire. This volume examines only two elements of this process through case studies. In part, it examines how the library systems of the two administrative units were transformed, the characteristics of the private libraries of the time and those of the institutional libraries. The second aspect focuses on the changes in the reading material of members of different social classes, religious communities and professional groups. The author is convinced that a complete knowledge of any period in history is also a means of finding answers to the questions of our time. History teaches us, fairy tales, if under a different name, are about us.
