- A Magyar Királyság a mohácsi csatát követően a Habsburg Monarchia része lett, amelynek kormányzati központja és uralkodói rezidenciavárosa Bécs volt. A császárváros fokozatosan egy közép-európai birodalom centrumává vált, ahova időről időre – művelődési, kapcsolatépítési, politikai vagy gazdasági szándékkal – a magyar rendi társadalom különböző pozícióban lévő tagjai is ellátogattak. Az integráció történetében az 1711. év alapvető mérföldkövet jelentett, a Rákóczi-szabadságharcot követően a Habsburg-magyar kapcsolatok új alapokra helyeződtek, ami jól megfigyelhető a magyarok bécsi jelenlétének és pozíciójának az erősödésében is. Ez a folyamat még látványosabb módon bontakozott ki Mária Terézia uralkodása alatt, amikor is az udvar és a magyar politikai elit között szoros együttműködés jött létre. Az 1711 és 1765 közötti időszak jelentős változásokat hozott a magyar nemesség császárvárosi térnyerésében, a magyar elit fokozatosan egyre inkább láthatóvá vált Bécs városi terében, udvari nyilvánosságában és kormányzati-politikai dimenziójában egyaránt. A kötetben részletgazdag képet kaphatunk a magyar főnemesség császárvárosi integrációjának különböző színtereiről az iskoláktól a Habsburg-udvartartáson és a központi kormányszerveken keresztül egészen a reprezentatív városi paloták világáig. A monográfiában a szerző egy évtizedes, kiterjedt levéltári alapkutatásainak az eredményeit adja közre, amely révén az olvasó egészen új szemszögből szemlélheti a 18. századi Habsburg-magyar kapcsolatokat.

- After the Battle of Mohács, the Kingdom of Hungary became part of the Habsburg Monarchy, with Vienna as its seat of government and imperial residence. The imperial city gradually became the centre of a Central European empire, to which members of the Hungarian nobility of various positions visited from time to time for cultural, networking, political or economic purposes. The year 1711 marked a fundamental milestone in the history of integration, and after the Rákóczi War of Independence, Habsburg-Hungarian relations were placed on a new footing, which can be clearly seen in the strengthening of the Hungarian presence and position in Vienna. This process unfolded even more spectacularly during the reign of Maria Theresa, when close cooperation was established between the court and the Hungarian political elite. The period between 1711 and 1765 saw significant changes in the penetration of the Hungarian nobility in the imperial capital, with the Hungarian elite gradually becoming more visible in the urban space of Vienna, in its courtly publicity and in its governmental-political dimension. The volume provides a richly detailed picture of the various arenas of the integration of the Hungarian nobility in the imperial city, from the schools, through the Habsburg court and the central governmental bodies, to the world of the representative urban palaces. In this monograph, the author presents the results of a decade of extensive archival research, which enables the reader to gain a completely new perspective on 18th-century Habsburg-Hungarian relations.
