ABSTRACT Geostrategic components of the Cyprus conflict Geostrategy is an integral part of geopolitics, the geographical projection of a states international interests, which determines strategic programs and activities in relation to specific geographical areas, primarily on the basis of security, political and economic considerations. Ihe basic assumption of this volume is that the resolution of the Cyprus conflict, which has been unresolved for over six decades, is not only constrained by the conflicting interests of local communities, but also by the geostrategic interests of regional and great powers. These Greek, Turkish, British, American and to some extent Russian strategic concepts have deepened the conflict on the island, precluded any international legal solution and, as a de facto outcome, have allowed direct or indirect presence on the island for most of the involved external actors. This volume seeks to identify the strategic factors that attracted foreign powers to the island, to explore their foreign policy concepts and actions to control these strategic factors, and to understand how their interventions influenced the emergence and continuation of the conflict.
