§ The system of biological sciences [ 25 research must extend to more than one species/population, and a study of the interaction that considers not one but more species/populations will no longer be autecology but biocoenology. Such studies are frequently restricted to the autecology of one or the other species, but they can also diverge towards taxonomy. All this, however, does not constitute a reason for doubting the justification to study the regularities of a biocoenosis through this lens.
